My visit to Printsource in Newyork was also one which was inspirational. Printsource is "the premier market for surface and textile design in the USA, holds three shows a year in new york city."

Whilst visiting, i noticed there was a large market for recycled vintage clothes, more commonly known as archives of fabrics. Many designers who exhibited there would reinvent torn or damaged vintage clothing, reprint on them and refurbish them for resale. Some would repair them and use the print to sell the design. Copyright would not be an issue as the clothes were aged and the exhibitors would be holding their own archive of similar prints.

Others who displayed their work, had very interesting collections, many were graphic designers or agencies and others were surface designers who worked with print.

When i asked many designers they commonly used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, some used in design and other packages too.

A percentage of the work was mainly childrenswear, with bright pastel shades and bold pattern.

The vintage clothing was an instant favourite, the idea of repairing fabrics and treating them with other media took a immediate interest. Maybe using this to create patchwork... this could be my next adventure.
